VILLA STENLØSE
The family commissioned a concept design for their future vacation home, envisioned as a modest house featuring a spacious living/dining/kitchen area and three bedrooms in total. They requested two terraces: one for summer dining and another for more informal gatherings. The house is designed as a classic light brick home with a gabled roof in a neutral color, complementing both the surrounding environment and neighboring houses. Maximizing natural sunlight throughout the interior was a key priority for the family.

The house is organized as two longitudinal volumes offset from each other. In the overlapping area, a generous communal space accommodates both the living room and the kitchen/dining area. The bedrooms are divided with the master suite located at one end of the volumes and the children’s bedrooms at the opposite side. This layout creates a clear separation between the parents’ and children’s areas. The design allows for visual connectivity through the house from multiple sides, with skylights in the living room ensuring abundant natural light. Internally, the roof follows the gable, except in the bedrooms and bathrooms. The children’s bedrooms feature small loft spaces with skylights, and an additional loft above the master bedroom provides extra storage.

The exterior is defined by the two interlocking volumes, forming a shared space at their overlap with sightlines through the house from several angles. The building presents a tall and slender profile from the outside, while the open communal area feels spacious internally, with a generous ceiling height of five meters to the ridge. The house harmonizes with its surroundings through subdued light brickwork and zinc cladding, complementing neighboring buildings.
The offset volumes create two wind-sheltered terraces, ideal for family gatherings. During the summer months, part of the living area can be opened to function as an extension of the interior space. Large oak-framed doors and glazing punctuate the facade, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that complements the light brickwork.
