SMÅLAND HOLIDAY HOME

The holiday home in Småland is surrounded by both deciduous and coniferous forest and is situated in a clearing, where the rear façade forms a protective backdrop towards the nearest neighbor, ensuring privacy. The family wanted a light architectural expression – the house therefore rests on a point foundation with a flat roof, giving it the appearance of having been “clicked” neatly into place. The outer façades are clad in timber, painted matte blue, while to the south, facing the forest, the house retreats to create space for a covered terrace. Here, the materiality shifts to untreated wood surfaces, with garden doors and windows framed in mahogany.
All three bedrooms are positioned to the north, forming the protective rear of the house. From the entrance hall, there is access to the bathroom, discreetly placed for privacy. The family requested compact bedrooms and one large kitchen-living area that can be opened up, allowing a seamless transition between the interior and the surrounding Småland landscape.
