The summer house in Kongsmark is located right by the Great Belt and therefore the absolute focus has been that every room should have a direct view of the southwest and the water. This applies to both the four bedrooms and the large common living area. The house is 149 m2 and accommodates a family with three adult children who wanted maximum contact with nature when they visit the house. The whole family lives abroad and therefore it has been important to create a setting where they can truly feel the Danish landscape.

There is a coastal protection line on the site which we have placed the house right up against to get as close to the sea as possible. To the northwest and northeast the house forms a spine and at the same time creates a comfortable shield that protects against views from the outside and the strong west wind. This placement gives the house its characteristic L-shape and ensures a sheltered terrace for the family where they can sit out of the wind. From here they can enjoy a panoramic view where you can look straight through the house towards the west.

We have divided the house into three parts each with its own sculptural roof. The first part is the sleeping area with four small rooms. The next part is the large combined kitchen-dining area and living room with vaulted ceilings and the final roof covers the smaller covered terrace. Although the kitchen-dining area and living room are designed as one large space there are built-in niches like an alcove and a bay window where you can sit in peace and watch the sea.
Even though it is a summer house it has been important that there is enough space to stay here all summer. Therefore the house includes practical elements like a utility room and a large kitchen with an island while the bathroom, guest toilet and the small rooms are prioritized as more compact. In the summer all doors can be slid open and the large glass doors facing the sea can be opened completely. Here inside and outside melt together and nature becomes a natural part of the home.

Both inside and out the house is kept in white. It is intended as a simple frame for the wide views of the Great Belt where the view acts as changing paintings and the white interior keeps the focus on nature. The building itself is shaped as a white sculpture that plays with the flat sea – We have not used eye-catching materials but have instead worked with a wavy form and a long profile and in this way the house acts as a gesture to the water and the wide horizon.
