ANNEX IN VEJBY
This project focuses on designing a compact guest annex for a family’s summer house in Vejby. The main house sits just 200 meters from the coast, nestled within a gently undulating landscape dominated by mature conifer trees. Originally built in the 1960s, the summer house was recently renovated, and the family now needed an additional building to accommodate overnight guests.

We developed a simple, refined annex that continues the architectural language of the existing house, echoing its roof pitch and using parallel external walls to maintain coherence between the two structures. The plan is organized around a central corridor: on one side, two bedrooms open directly toward the garden. The timber structure is extended beyond the terrace to provide extra privacy and a sense of enclosure for guests. The annex is deliberately rotated 90 degrees in relation to the main house, creating a subtle spatial tension between the volumes.
Opposite the bedrooms, the corridor leads to a small bathroom and an integrated storage room. A key ambition was to shape a pleasant, intimate outdoor space between the two buildings – a place for spontaneous encounters and an informal dining area during the summer months.
The annex is clad in light ash, creating a soft contrast to the existing black-painted house. It is positioned close to the site boundary with the intention of allowing the surrounding trees and natural vegetation to envelop it. To reinforce this connection to nature, the roof is covered with sedum, allowing the annex to blend quietly into its forested surroundings.
